History
In 2003 Martin Kruger decided to go racing and
bought an ex-Polo Cup car from Terry Moss Racing. Martin Jr. Kruger successfully campaigned
in this car.
During the course of the year Mr. Kruger bought another two cars, RGT (Mr.
Kruger's company) became an additional sponsor, together with Martin's Guest
House sponsor and the team now fielded
three cars.
The white Golf no 7.
The red Polo no 8.
The ex-LUK Golf no 78.
Martin Jr. came 1st Class B and 3rd Overall in the
LUK 3-hour endurance race.
In 2004 after winning Class A, an Opel
Warwick Supercar was bought by Martin to give main driver, Martin Jr. Kruger, some rear-wheel
racing experience.
In his second race in this car he speedily progressed from Class E times to
Class B times in one day.
Martin also ran the red Polo no 8 in some races and the Opel in some races.
On one day Mr. Kruger's RGT/MGH team entered five vehicles and came home with
SEVEN trophies.
Again, Martin Jr. came 1st Class B and 3rd Overall in the
LUK 3-hour endurance race,
beating a local Alfa GTV by some 19 laps.
In 2005, running 3rd in Class A, the
RGT/MGH 8-valve Golf was beaten by only the newly recently-modified 20-valve
cars.
Mid-year Martin Jr. decided that he was ready to face the challenges of National
competition and bought an Engen Polo Cup car.
He came 16th in his first race in East London in the Vodacom Powertour.
In the meantime Martin, in the Red Polo number 8 car continued running in Regionals
in Class C, coming 5th in Class C and 13th Overall for the year.
Martin Jr. continued running regionals, now in his Polo Cup car, coming 3rd for
the year in Class C, despite running only half of the races.
In addition to this, he came 3rd in Class A for the year.
In the LUK 3-hour endurance race,
Martin Jr. came 3rd in Class A and a highly creditable 5th overall.
In 2006, Martin Jr. came 14th at the
A1 GP Polo Cup Race.
So sadly, the incredible little white Golf was sold and Martin sent the Opel down to Owen Ashley to be sold.
The team has concentrated on running the National Series only.
Mr. Kruger is the owner of the
team and the vehicles and the workshop can be found on the premises of his home
in Port Elizabeth.
Sponsors RGT and MGH contribute toward costs and share in resultant income. In
addition, RGT, founded by Mr. Kruger in 1978, hosts a number of motor sports
websites at no cost - in a sincere effort to grow the sport.
